Jeremy Abel

Doctor of Veterinary Medicine

Dr. Jeramie Abel will join the Liberty Animal Hospital team in April 2025. Born and raised in North Platte, Nebraska, Dr. Abel began his military career joining the U.S. Navy in July 1990 and served 10 years as a helicopter crew chief and rescue swimmer. He left the Navy to complete undergraduate work in Veterinary Biomedical Science at University of Nebraska-Lincoln, earning his Bachelor of Science degree in 2002 while also continuing military service as a reserve member of the Nebraska Air National Guard. Before applying for veterinary school, Dr. Abel was involved in several published research projects at UNL College of Agricultural Sciences and Natural Resources. Dr. Abel then attended Kansas State University where he completed work toward a Master of Public Health degree in infectious and zoonotic diseases and also earned his DVM from Kansas State University in 2012 while also competing as an athlete on the KSU collegiate cycling team. Upon graduation, Dr. Abel worked in a mixed animal practice in North Platte until joining the U.S. Army, Veterinary Corps in 2013. Dr. Abel led multiple missions worldwide while on active duty including collaborative engagements in Sri Lanka and Africa. He retired with 24 years of active-duty service in 2025. His special interests in veterinary practice are zoonotic disease prevention, orthopedic and soft tissue surgery, advanced dentistry, companion animal nutrition and behavior. In his free time Dr. Abel enjoys road cycling, kiteboarding/kitesurfing, skiing and snowboarding.
